Some Facts About the UK Tutoring Market

The Sutton Trust’s 2023 research on the tutoring landscape found that:

  • Almost a third (30%) of young people in England and Wales have received private or home tuition, a figure which has risen significantly since the Trust began collecting the data in 2005.

  • Almost half of those receiving private tuition (47%) did so to help with school work in general.

  • More than one in three (33%) pupils received tuition for specific GCSE exams, and 27% for a school entrance exam.

In addition:

  • 52% of secondary school pupils agreed that their progress in school had suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Tutoring is most effective in small groups, no larger than six or seven pupils.

The Costs

The basic cost of a MagiKats franchise is £12,500, but don’t worry if you don’t have that sort of cash available to you. With as little as £2,000 deposit saved and a small business loan, you could get up and running. We can also connect you with a great loan provider - click here for more info. There are a number of options available to the right person, including a special package for qualified teachers. What we want is people in our network who will be great to work with and, more importantly, great at running one of our Tuition Centres. So, if you don’t have the money then don’t let that put you off - speak to us today and find out what your options are.

We believe that you should have flexibility over how you charge for the services you provide, without worrying about how that impacts on your costs. With that in mind, we do not charge an ongoing percentage based on your turnover like many franchises. Instead, we charge two types of fixed fee each month - a support fee and a materials fee.
